Shooting for any video in Sri Lanka would be a film maker’s dream. The beauty of the landscape, the warmth of the people and the kaleidoscopic flavors of the food are a backdrop impossible not to notice by anyone lucky enough to visit this island paradise. Inspired by the lyrics of OneRepulic’s I Lived, this was the most fun I think I’ve had putting together a post-build video for my Habitat for Humanity Global Village Team. As always I owe them a debt of gratitude for being willing participants in this project. And to all my new friends in Sri Lanka, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your life with me.
Now more than ever before, I challenge myself to make the most of every day, measuring my success or failure in moments. To notice the details. To feel whatever comes up and not judge the emotion. To be present. To not take for granted the conversation I am having with my guest. Or the conversation I am having with myself. There may not be a next time. To notice, to feel, to be — and to be comfortable doing so — is a quietly cultivated art.
Together, let’s own every second that this world can give.
