There are, of course, many Kiwi-isms.  Here are a few you might find useful that we heard on our visit.

  • If you want French fries ask for CHIPS
  • If your house is a TIP it’s a mess
  • A holiday house is a BACH or a CRIB
  • The DAIRY is the corner store
  • You fill your car with PETROL
  • When you go to the beach don’t forget your TOGS or swimsuits
  • Candy is generally known as LOLLIES
  • A flashlight is a TORCH
  • In the morning you eat BREKKIE or breakfast
  • In the evening you eat TEA not dinner
  • Cookies are BISCUITS
  • A garbage disposal is a MUNCHER
