On our way to Sibiu, Romania my friend and I now had an entire day to kill in Munich. Obviously although we are dog tired after our delayed overnight flight, we are NOT going to stay in the airport. Enter the Internet. After a brief search and a few questions posed to the lady at the Information Desk in the airport, we locked up our luggage and headed for the Number 635 Bus to Freising. ROMANIA | Sibiu, The City with Eyes
The first time I visited Sibiu I was only there for a few hours and knew I one day I’d return. This time, on my way to Cluj to meet my Global Builders Team to volunteer with The Fuller Center for Housing Romania, I opted to fly directly to Sibiu and spend three nights in The City with Eyes, so named for all the eyebrow dormers on the roofs of the buildings. Continue reading
Global Builders ROMANIA | Cluj, Napoca III
This is my third trip to build houses with The Fuller Center Romania in Cluj. It’s a local terrific team and a wonderful place to travel. You’ll be building in Jucu de Sus, a lovely and bucolic village outside of Cluj. I always want to spend more time in Romania and have done so on every visit. If you’d like to learn more, search Romania on this site and you’ll find all my posts! Continue reading
ARMENIA | A Hard Won History
I traveled to this tiny landlocked Eurasian country to partner with the Fuller Center for Housing Armenia so that another hard-working family could have a decent place to live. Our base for the week was the capital city Yerevan, an unexpectedly delightful and lively city. Armenians are night owls y’all! Continue reading

THE REPUBLIC of GEORGIA I The Mountains Are Calling
The Republic of Georgia has been enjoying its time in the travel media limelight. It seems every travel blog I read waxed poetic about the tiny country with a familiar name. Perhaps because of its generous digital nomad visa, allowing expats to stay a full year, or because of the great food and the easy-on-your-wallet prices, travelers are flocking to the country firmly anchored by the Caucasus Mountains, straddling the intersection of Europe and Asia. Continue reading
BULGARIA | Stealable 10-Day Itinerary Starting in Sofia
[This post is part one of a 10-day driving itinerary that includes Sofia, Melnik, Plovdiv, and Veliko Taranovo, which each have their own post.] I’d never visited Bulgaria, which is usually reason enough for me to go somewhere. Before meeting my Global Builders Team in Cluj, Romania in mid-April, I decided to give myself ten … Continue reading
Global Builders ROMANIA | Cluj-Napoca II
For the second time, I lead a team to the fabulous city of Cluj, to partner with The Fuller Center Cluj to help build affordable housing the in bucolic Jucu-de-Sus. My first trip to Romania, and first build with the Fuller Center there, was in 2023. I loved it so much, I decided to return … Continue reading
BOLIVIA | La Paz—Highest Capital City in the World
Once again, leading a Global Builders team with The Fuller Center for Housing, took me overseas, this time to Bolivia. I live near sea level, so landing straight away at an elevation over 13,000 feet at La Paz’s El Alto Airport was an adjustment to say the least. Bolivia is not an easy destination for … Continue reading
BOLIVIA | Global Builders, La Paz
Having never been to Bolivia, I figured building houses alongside families in need of affordable shelter was a great reason to get me there. This would be my second time leading a team for The Fuller Center for Housing, also in South America. I had a rather large team, full of experienced builders and travelers. … Continue reading
