Today was a great day. We are almost entirely finished with the bamboo weaving. Tomorrow we will begin the final stage of plastering the walls with mortar. We pre-sifted the sand through a screen to remove the small rocks so the plaster on the walls would be smooth. There is a very tangible sense of … Continue reading
Days 5 & 6: Weekend Site Seeing
A welcome change from the physical labor of house building, we are touring some of the well known sites around Pokhara. Saturday morning at 5am we headed up to Sarangkot. The view was spectacular – perched high above the town we watched another day dawn. As the sun – a huge blaze of orange – … Continue reading
Days 3 & 4: Bamboo Walls, Tin Roof, Concrete Floor
We made it to the weekend! The bamboo weaving is nearly entirely finished, the tin roof is on and the concrete floor is in. In just four days this is really looking like a house! Everyone is joyously exhausted and ready for some site seeing and downtime. I would happily be posting several times a … Continue reading

These didn’t make it for some reason.
Day 2: Bamboo Weaving Continues

Day 1: Learning Bamboo Construction
After months of anticipation…we made it to the worksite! It was an amazing first day of building. We had two teams working on learning to cut, strip and weave bamboo and the other digging the pit latrine and using the dirt to backfill the foundation.
Patan

It is beautiful and known as the “fine art” center of the city. I have some great video to share but having trouble uploading it! Hope for now … Continue reading
Arriving
Yes, those would be mountains outside the window of the airplane! Most of the team has arrived. After a fabulous lunch at Fire and Ice (pizza) we visited the Garden of Dreams, a lovely oasis in the midst of a bustling capital city.
A Night for Nepal
Preparing to leave all I know to travel halfway ’round the world with a team of 11 volunteers to help build houses in Nepal, I have reflected on all that has happened to bring us to this point. Back in January of 2012 while I was dropping my daughter off for her dance lesson, I … Continue reading
24 Hours in Paradise
Welcome to the land of horse-drawn buggies, corn fields and cows, farm suppliers and silos, where references to Jesus as Lord and Savior abound – Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Inspired by an article on agrotourism, I booked our family of five for a night at family owned and operated Verdant View Farm in Paradise, PA. Who … Continue reading
